War Paint

"Only when she sits before her mirror to apply her makeup with care does she become a geisha. And I don't mean that this is when she begins to look  like one. This is when she begins to think like one."
~Arthur Golden
"Memoirs of A Geisha"

I started reading this book when I was in California. It is interesting to be able to relate to a dying profession.

Every night before work I sit before my mirror gluing on my face. This is like a meditation and a prayer at the same time. However to an outsider it just looks like another step in the process of being beautiful. Another thing to be envious or hateful of. Little do people know that in this process I am giving up my individuality on the inside. The only things that will allow me to stick out from the rest, from this moment till the end of my work night, will be the physical.

If people could understand the difference between the "real" me and the "fantasy" they perceive to be me, this job would be amazingly different!

Thus, why I remember war paint has its necessary evils because to make money without any originals thoughts or words, one must look appealing!
